Göran Hellers

Göran Hellers, MD, PhD - Dr. Hellers is an MD, PhD in general surgery from the Karolinska Medical School in Stockholm, Sweden. He was a Clinical Research Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1982-83. He was the Head of the Department of Surgery at Karolinska Huddinge University Hospital in Stockholm for 9 years, he was the General Secretary of the Swedish Surgical Society for 6 years, and he was the Chairman of the Stockholm County Medical Reimbursement Committee for 4 years. He was a Board Member of OMGE (World Society of Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery) for 17 years, and Chairman of its Education Committee for 12 years. During the last few years, he has been contracted by the World Bank to update public hospitals in Eastern Europe and countries of the former Soviet Union, such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Georgia, and to advise these countries on the reform of their health care systems. Dr. Hellers currently lives in Stockholm, Sweden.

 

 

 

PO Juhlin

PO Juhlin, MBA. Mr. Juhlin has been working for a long period as management consultant with experience in particular regarding turn-around projects and business control in organizations. He has been CEO in several companies in various branches, and has served on many boards of directors as chairman or board member. Mr. Juhlin has also had many consultant assignments in the healthcare system in Sweden and abroad. Mr. Juhlin founded Scandinavian Care in 1996 together with Dr Göran Hellers, and he has been working in this company ever since. He specializes in setting up Gamma Knife sites and was the project leader when Scandinavian Care together with partners started Gamma Knife Centers in Cairo, Stockholm and Lisbon. He is currently still active as board member of Centro Gamma Knife Radiocirugia in Lisbon and is also supporting the management team in Gamma Knife Center in Cairo. Scandinavian Care is a shareholder in those two Centers. Another specialties are financing solutions and to mirror planned or real activities in financial models. Mr. Juhlin currently lives in Stockholm, Sweden.

 

 

Christer Lindquist

Christer Lindquist, MD, PhD - Professor Lindquist trained in Neurosurgery at the University of Texas, USA, and the Karolinska Institute, Sweden. Professors Lars Leksell and Ladislau Steiner were his mentors. He was the Head of the Karolinska Gamma Knife Center 1986- 1998, and Professor of Neurosurgery and chief of the New England Gamma Knife Center at Brown University, USA 1992-1993. He was the former President of the Leksell Gamma Knife Society, and President of the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society (ISRS) 1995- 1997. He is the author of numerous papers on radiosurgery. Professor Lindquist has been a visiting professor to numerous institutions in the USA, Europe, Australia, Japan and other Asian countries. He is currently the Medical Director of the Cromwell Gamma Knife Center, London, UK since 1998. He also serves as Neurosurgery Consultant to Elekta AB, manufacturer of the Gamma Knife. Jaanus Pikani

Jaanus Pikani, MD. - East Europe. Dr Jaanus Pikani is chairman of the Estonian Genome Foundation - a NGO that initiated the Estonian Genome Project, a population based health and genome data collection in Estonia. Responding to the initiative Estonian parliament approved in 2000 special law enabling large scale genomic data collection. Jaanus Pikani has been working more than 10 years as a cancer and reconstructive surgeon. From 1994 he was in different areas of public service (secretary general of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Chief of Staff of the Estonian President). In 1998 he was appointed as CEO of Tartu University Clinics to conduct a merger of 15 different clinics to join together and become the University Hospital of Estonia. As being among the initiators and architects of the Estonian Genome Project, Jaanus Pikani has followed closely international developments in various aspects of health and genome data collection. Dr Pikani is also a founder of the Estonian biotech company Asper Biotech and serving on the board of the Estonian Biotechnology Association. He is also member of the ScanBalt Steering Committee.

 

 

Amr Rifaat

Amr Rifaat, M.Sc. PhD - North Africa & Middle East. Dr. Amr Rifaat is an Egyptian Swedish citizen. He has a wide and relevant experience in different areas. He is a doctorate in engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. He has been a teacher in engineering, he speaks fluent Swedish and he has represented a Swedish governmental company actively assisting Egyptians to achieve the best medical care over many years. Amr Rifaat has been working in many business development projects, in particular in the healthcare sector, e.g the development of the Gamma Knife Center in Cairo, where he now is responsible for the operation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Henry Broni-Amponsah

Henry Broni-Amponsah, PhD. - Sub-Saharan Africa.

Henry Broni is a Ghanian by birth but has lived in Sweden for 35 years and is a Swedish citizen. He has a BSc degree in Medical Technology from the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. Following his academic training he worked as a medical technologist and finally as a Director of Medical Technology at various Swedish companies. Starting in the late 1980's he was mainly involved with various NGO's related to the development of Ghana, including being a Director of the Star of Hope. During the last few years he has spent about half of his time in various business development projects in Ghana. He currently lives in both Stockholm and Accra.
